Harpenden Halls, Hertfordshire
Dates Required: 9th Dec to 22nd Dec 2017
Production: Dick Whittington
The show is the pantomime Dick Whittington, and is a semi-pro production. As in equipment hires, venue hire, and 'name' lead actors get paid and every one else from stage crew and stage manager through to other cast and chorus volunteer unpaid. I feel I had to let that be known up-front as this is a two week run, with two shows a day, plus maybe tech rehearsals. Quite an ask for someone to do unpaid.
I am the lighting designer for the show, and have operated it for the last two years as well voluntarily, but I have developed MS, and will not be able to operate the shows this year due to now having two shows a day.

Volunteer / Dublin
I am an Indian woman living & working in Shanghai, China since 8 years.
I have a full-time job in a German company exporting apparels.
I have made plans to visit Dublin from 4th to 13th October 2016 for leisure & have booked my accommodation in Malahide(4 nights) and Dublin center(5 nights).
While I plan to enjoy the sights; sounds and food in Dublin, I was wondering if you could in any way help to find if there is any chance or an opportunity where I could volunteer as a back-stage hand in any of the productions going on in & around Dublin.
It could be 1 or 2 or 3 performances .... whatever may be available.
After work, I have volunteered in many amateur productions during my stay in Dhaka(Bangladesh) previously and currently in Shanghai as well.
--mainly as props manager and at times also moving sets before ; during and after performances.
It works as a great stress-buster for me!
I am not in need of any payment but only to enjoy meeting people and doing something interesting together.
For me, I see it as a simple way to enhance my experience & to add to my memories in this trip.
Look forward to hearing from you.

One Year Director's Apprenticeship
We are proud to introduce our new Director's Apprenticeship. It is your chance to learn your craft and launch your career on a new level, working with high profile figures in the industry.
|The team you will work with includes Gari Jones, West End and National Theatre Director and Associate of Harold Pinter and Francesca Jaynes, guest director and choreographer. Francesca has choreographed the last four Tim Burton movies, Jude Law’s robotic movement in Steven Spielberg’s A.I and Mike Leigh’s Topsy-Turvy. Also part of the staff is Elizabeth Ranken, one of this country’s leading movement directors, renowned for her work for the Royal Shakespeare Company and Shared Experience and a founder member of prestigious physical theatre company DV8.|
Sam Julyan, Executive Producer of Lord of The Flies for former Royal Shakespeare Company, Artistic Director Adrian Noble and the award winning Menier Chocolate Factory’s Lucy McNally will help to guide your career launch strategy. Olivier Award winning Bridge graduate Ruth Bratt joins this line up.
You will work as an actor yourself – it’s essential for all directors to understand the process of the actor.
You will direct your own projects from early in the start of the apprenticeship and will receive comprehensive guidance on everything from narrative structure to your approach to rehearsing and motivating actors.
You will move on to your own public productions and also assist on other Bridge productions, culminating in the chance to show your work to industry figures.
The minimum age is 21 and there is no upper age limit. Entry is by interview.
Application for the course
Application is by direct submission of cover letter and CV.
The apprenticeship runs from October to June (with breaks for half-term, Christmas and Easter) but you will receive continuing support long after you graduate and at no extra cost – this is what being part of the company means.
Our standard hours are 10am-5pm Monday to Friday, but directors are free to arrange modified hours with us so that they can work to support themselves if necessary.
£2550 per term for 3 terms.
Scholarships are available and you will receive full guidance on the ways in which you can fund the Director's Apprenticeship.
For an informal chat about the Apprenticeship, please ring Mark Akrill (Joint Artistic Director) on 020 7424 0860.
How to apply
Send a CV and cover letter, addressed to Judith Pollard (Joint Artistic Director) to firstname.lastname@example.org

But we don’t have a Director (Aaaaaah).

Ruddigore – Director needed!
GLOC is looking for a Director for their summer performance of Ruddigore; Or, The Witch's Curse. Could it be you?
More details can be found on the GLOC website click here - or by emailing Laura at email@example.com
Shortly after The Mikado became the greatest hit of their careers to date, W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan set about creating a new and original comic opera which was a pastiche of the popular Victorian theatrical melodrama. The result was Ruddigore.
Robin, the Baronet of Ruddigore, afraid of the family curse, has run away to be a farmer and fallen in love with a girl. But his rival in love reveals his true identity, meaning he must return to the family castle to replace his brother and fulfil the curse, committing a crime a day: "Each lord of Ruddigore, despite his best endeavor, shall do one crime, or more, once every day, for ever." Back in the gallery of Castle Ruddigore, Robin is surrounded by pictures of the former Baronets. His ancestors’ paintings come to life and torture him for his lacklustre criminality until he agrees to a major crime. Everything seems to be going wrong until Robin comes up with an ingenious solution to the curse.

THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE
Contact: Please reply to firstname.lastname@example.org by the 24th October, indicating your interest.
The show will be run in the week commencing Monday 27th April 2015 at the Crescent Theatre, Sheepcote Street, Birmingham.
Rehearsals are held at Allens Cross Community Centre in Northfield on Mondays for principals and Thursdays for the whole company and will commence in January 2015.
Points to bear in mind:-
We are looking for an innovative production which is very humorous, but with respect for Gilbert’s libretto and Sullivan’s music.
Our budget is necessarily constrained; the appointed producer must work within £3,000, to include costs for scenery, costumes and props but excludes the hire of the theatre and the approx. 15 piece orchestra. This would include any fee you may ask for.
Rehearsals must be enjoyable and fun for the society members as we believe the morale of the society strongly influences the ticket sales, and we need good ticket sales to survive.
You should take into account that the average age of the company is probably above 60 years.
Previous experience is not essential, but you will need to convince us that you can meet our objectives.
We will be responding to enquiries and interviewing selected candidates over the following two weeks.
Contact: If you are interested, please send your CV and a covering letter explaining why you'd like to get involved to email@example.com

We would need someone from 18:30-22:30 Monday 16 - Sat 21 (covering tech, dress, and performances) but we also have access to the theatre on the Sunday 10:00-18:00 when we’ll be trying to do a bit of pre tech work (rigging lighting etc) and all day on the Monday when some further prep work could be done.
Geoids, one of central London’s longest-established amateur theatre companies, is bringing 90s contemporary rock/pop musical "The Fix" to the Winterflood Theatre, City of London Boys’ School, near St Pauls. for 4 Evening performances Wed 18 to Sat 21 July 2012
Essentially we’re looking for someone to mic up actors and mix sound levels for the show. With a cast of 25 there would be a max of 9 radio mics operating at any one time (we’ll swap the power packs between cast members as necessary when they’re not in scenes).
Band will be upstage right and comprises 8 musicians (2 keyboards, drums, bass, lead guitar and 3 reed/brass players). Acoustics are such in the theatre that we don’t anticipate needing any additional mics for band (on the advice of the theatre manager).
Obviously being an amateur group and a charity we are on a tight budget and if someone would do it for love / beer we would be very grateful but we could negotiate a small fee in order to find the right person.
The other thing to mention is that that theatre manager is fiercely protective of his equipment and we have been asked for our tech crew to all meet him so that he can gauge their knowledge and experience before letting them loosen on rigs and decks, so anyone coming onto the project would have to meet with him (during office hours) before we get in to the theatre.

Yet again Cambridge\’s Festival Players are taking on a new challenge - to show that we have the dexterity and skill to present musicals of any known genre as well as those that are buzzing with the thrill of recent success. The Hot Mikado, adapted from the original Gilbert & Sullivan score into a swinging 1940s take on the story, will provide fine opportunities for principals and ensemble to shine, with a flexible cast size from 18 upwards. With the backing of a six-piece jazz band, the vocal style of the musical numbers are re-born, travelling from swing and hot gospel to blues and torch.Following recent success and international praise, this bold take on a much loved show provides a unique opportunity for an experienced director to create a new and exciting theatrical experience, whilst drawing on the fondness and fame of a musical classic.
Auditions will be announced soon, following a director being selected. If you are interested in directing this exciting production please contact the Secretary via email by 15th November 2011

Eydon Players are a small but talented group in the village of Eydon, South Northants, about 10 miles from both Daventry and Banbury. Own transport essential.
We need a director for our spring play, which will run in the middle of May, with rehearsals starting in Feb or March. Rehearsal nights are Mondays and Wednesdays, with Sundays also possible if needed. The local society directorial talent is either needing a rest or not available due to work commitments etc.
The scripts under consideration are one of the Farndale farces or Alan Aykbourne\’s Absurd Person Singular, but if a direstor should come forward with a favourite of their own, we would certainly consider it. We cannot pay anything, but reasonable expenses are offered.
There is lots of information about the society, including details of past productions, on our web site at our website

Stage Combat Training for Schools
Squire Theatre is a new Devon based company offering industry standard stage combat training to schools and theatre groups such as yourself. We offer a range of services including armed and unarmed combat, theatrical effect such as blood and squibs and historical consultancy for plays and film productions. Squire offers practical experience from industry professionals developing unique skills that can be utilised within your training program or productions. We aim to provide affordable workshops dedicated to introducing students and amateur performers to the fundamental workings of dramatic combat so as to encourage safe and professional working practices and all levels of theatre.
Stage combat builds confidence, self control, trust and physical fitness all essential qualities for any actor. Be it a youth production or a rep company, a high quality combat scene is a true joy to watch. After all conflict is the essence of drama and the epitome of conflict is combat. Stage combat is so much more than a way of providing filler for the ever dreaded stage direction 'they fight.' It is an all encompassing performance skill combining the physical fitness and control of dance with the close character study of acting and the practical know how of riggers and stage managers. Be it creating a convincing Shakespearian duel or a truly slick slapstick routine stage combat has something for everyone.
As well as gaining a highly sought after performance skills actors and students will also have the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals gaining valuable insight into the reality of the performance industry. As company manager I personally take responsibility for all combat based workshops using my knowledge and experience as a working actor combatant and stunt performer to introduce more people to a side of drama that is seldom explored in traditional training and yet one of the most exciting. I know a lot of us (particularly the lads) only got into performing in the first place after having watched any number of Jackie Chan, Van Dam, Batman combinations and always relish the chance to be an Errol Flynn like action hero.
Unlike a martial art or sporting activity stage combat is an art form which is founded on cooperation and support rather than competition. It is primarily non contact although with confidence groups can explore cooperative contact techniques such as lifts and throws and is by its very nature highly safety conscious (the first rule of fight club is...no one gets hurt!).
Workshops are very flexible and can be booked according to your needs. Squire also runs an artist in residence scheme which can be tailored to your individual needs combining long or short term tuition in fights, falls, and effects. All our staff are fully CRB checked and all props used adhere to British safety standards.
All students must be 10 years old or over. Our instructors are all high grade drama graduates and are certified by the British Academy of Dramatic Combat. For the sake of quality we also insist that all our instructors have received a level 3 distinction grade from the BADC (British Academy of Dramatic Combat) and nothing lower. For more information on our work with schools and to book Squire Theatre please visit our website and click on the secondary section. Or if you would like more information as to my personal work within the stunt industry please visit my personal site. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
