Market Harborough Musical Theatre

Facebook  Twitter

Market Harborough

Hi there, unless you are ultra keen on web surfing the chances are that you are viewing this page because you have an interest in musical theatre or amateur dramatics. If this is the case then we would be delighted to see you. At the MHMT we welcome members new and returning, young and old (check out DASH, a group we recently set up specifically for our youngsters) in fact everyone! You need not be a Judy Garland or Michael Ball, not everyone is gifted with the voice of a nightingale, and you need not even be a performer because creating a production also needs set builders, musicians, lighting and sound crews and stage hands. What we do ask is that you are willing to mix with and enjoy the company of like minded people in YOUR area, and have fun! We would be very happy to see you at one of our Wednesday rehearsals where you will usually find at least one committee member on hand for a friendly chat.
In the mean time if you have anymore questions please do not hestitate to contact us.
Our members pay an annual membership plus a fee for each show they participate in with reductions for students, therefore members who do not wish to perform in shows only pay the membership fee. These fees are kept to an absolute minimum but we are a registered charity aiming to promote public awareness of the performing arts and donate to charitable organisations, and as such are responsible for our own funding.
Some of you may remember us as the Market Harborough and District Amateur Operatic Society, formed in 1948, regularly performing Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, and from 1957 adding pretty much everything that held a good song and story (plus some which didnt). We changed our name in 2005 to reflect the changes in modern perception where Operatic is often considered stuffy, something which we definitely are not. We are a group of people, just like you, who get together to sing, perform, make friends, socialise and enjoy ourselves. What do you have to lose and how much could you gain? We are YOUR Society, YOUR neighbours, YOUR friends, come along and pay us a visit, you will be made very welcome and you may surprise yourself too.

Performing Stars Academy, 29 Horseguards Way, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire LE13 0SU
Drama School - Acting Classes and Drama Classes, Singing Lessons
Whether you are a star or a parent of a budding star, we would like to welcome you to our website. We are a unique stage school designed specifically to help children of all ages develop confidence through active participation in the performing arts. Unlike certain more specialised drama schools and dance schools, we aim to inspire children in all three of the core areas of the performing arts. Students will experience and learn about a broad range of styles and genres of dance, drama and singing. Our drama classes, dance classes and singing lessons are structured to help students develop a boarder set of skills as well as an overall appreciation for the arts and particularly a love for the theatre.
Unlike some theatre schools our aim is to nurture and develop individual talents and reward students for their effort and perseverance as opposed to focusing on talent alone. We focus heavily on helping all students to grow in confidence, thrive on challenge and gain skills that will benefit them through life regardless to their chosen path.
We currently run classes in the following locations.
Melton Mowbray, Leicester, Burton on Trent

SWM Theatre Company

South Wigston

We are the South Wigston Musical Theatre Co., better known by our initials, SWM, we are one of the oldest groups in Leicestershire still performing today.
The group is made up from church members, but also includes quite a few 'outsiders'!
The group originally produce two shows every year - a 'musical' in the summer, and a traditional pantomime after Christmas. But now although they still produce a pantomime, they now produce a cabaret (or variety show) during the spring/summer season.
The venue for these shows is the theatre at Guthlaxton College, Station Road, Wigston and we enjoy a good relationship with their performing arts department. Productions by the college students in which we have been involved are 'Les Miserables', 'West Side Story' and 'Blood Brothers'.
South Wigston Methodist Church is the 'headquarters' for the group.
The Church provides rehearsal and storage facilities to meet the group's needs.
We produce all our own sets, drawing on our scenery stocks which are added to and/or amended as necessary for each show. Many of our sets are composite split-level sets, often using mobile scenery on trucks. We have our own 'sound' man who may use up to a dozen or more radio mikes.
Over the years, we have amassed a large collection of props and costumes which we are prepared to hire out to other groups. (and we don't charge the earth! )
If you would like more information, or would like to join our group email swmtheatreco@hotmail.co.uk
