Carver Theatre (The)

Facebook

Marple

The theatre was founded in 1906 as the Marple Drama Society and lived variously in Shepley Hall, the old Tannery and various church halls before finally settling in Thomas Carverís Recreation Club, commonly known as the Carver Institute.
This venue was gradually transformed into a cosy theatre with a good sized stage and the best light gas mantles could provide. It took another fifty years to acquire our first proper dressing rooms.
The Carver Theatre, like any amateur theatre group, is only as good as the people who produce, direct, act and stage-manage its productions. In this respect , we are better placed than most groups to deliver entertainment of a quality that belies its amateur origins. That's because everyone currently involved with this theatre group strives to meet the most professional standards possible across all aspects of a production - its direction, it's acting, its singing and dancing, it's music, its sound, its lighting - for us, only the best will do. And for the people of Marple and its neighbours, that's very good news indeed.
We are always looking for new members. Whether your interests lie in acting, producing, stage construction or design, sound, lighting, props, wardrobe, or anything that involves the theatre, you can be sure you you'll find it with us.
So, if you are interested in joining the Carver Theatre, please contact us via membership@carver-theatre.co.uk or publicity@carvertheatre.co.uk

CHYPS Ė Cheshire Youth Pantomime Society

North Cheshire

What do we do?
It all began in 2007 when over forty 11-19 yr olds started rehearsing a traditional pantomime, Robin Hood. None of the cast had been in a panto Ė some had never even seen one!
Robin Hood was staged in January 2008 and CHYPS has never looked back. Aladdin, Peter Pan, Cinderella, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast a newly scripted Aladdin followed and all shows were performed to packed houses.
Their talent and energy shone through as they entertained delighted audiences exceeding 900 during the week. CHYPS is a charity (reg. no. 1141979), relying on support from parents, schools, grants, local businesses and the skills and energy of individual helpers.
CHYPS pantos are especially written to appeal to teenagers with large casts and great music. The shows are professionally staged with live music from a teenage band led by our Musical Director. CHYPS combines lots of fun with hard work and the satisfaction of being part of shows that are a delight to watch.
If you want to know what itís like to perform in a CHYPS panto then take a look at the photos of cast members in Past Shows.
